Word Lists

Nothing says back to school for the little ones like mastering sight word lists. I can think of a few good uses for these with ESOL students, too. With all the focus on low reading scores and esol students, mastering theseis tantamount to reading fluency success. Practice them with your students with these worksheets. Other ideas include putting these in clear file so they can tally mark each time they see one of the words in a story or reading passage. You could also use one as the crazy word of the day. When someone says it or read it aloud, everyone does a specific cheer!

Nothing says back to school like tackling some sight word lists! Without knowing these words by rote, oral reading fluency drops significantly. Keep these in a binder to test students or send home these word lists for parents to test their kids on every day. It’s a great school-home connection piece in primary grades.
