Enhance writing power in time for standardized testing with synonyms and their EVIL cousin, antonyms. Remind students that it’s fun to know as many words as possible for: good, pretty, hot, cold, bad, and all these other common words that we overuse. Do it with a word graveyard! With all the focus on low reading scores and esol students, mastering theseis tantamount to reading fluency success. Practice them with your students with these worksheets. Other ideas include putting these in clear file so they can tally mark each time they see one of the words in a story or reading passage. You could also use one as the crazy word of the day. When someone says it or read it aloud, everyone does a specific cheer!
